Don Johnson & Josh Halloway 2014

January 2014 is off to an amazing start with sessions cooking Hot like Fire.This week Playback Recording Studio worked on 2 Feature Films and slew of TV Shows and Commercials.

We were visited by Don Johnson, John Corbett and Josh Holloway for his acclaimed role in Intelligence on CBS.

We are also tracking vocals with a major label artist and Producer with Hits for days.

With all this action we have had in House Producer and Chief Mixing Engineer @DJOvertone mixing 11 songs. Overtone has been hard at work finishing all the (Solid State Logic) (SSL) analogue mixes for Austin Sexton’s new CD Album release @iamaustinsexton.

Katy Perry’s Roar

Santa Barbara has and will always be a top music hub for recording and performing hit records, from Jack Johnson to Rebelution, and of course our own home grown girl Katy Perry.

Playback Recording Studio would like to congratulate Katy Perry for her impressive string of successes on her 2013 album Prism.

Last year Perry released her newest record PRISM to immediate fanfare, topping the charts and selling over 285,000 copies in its first week.

The album’s first hit single Roar, written and recorded at Playback Recording Studio in Santa Barbara, sold 557,000 copies in its first week on sale. Katy Perry’s Roar is her highest selling single ever, even topping her massive hit Firework.

This is the second album in a row that’s included hit singles written and recorded at Playback Recording Studio with producers Max Martin and Dr. Luke at the helm. Her music videos for the singles recorded at Playback alone have a combined the sum of nearly a billion views! Katy says “Playback feels like home, and I love the vibe.”

That isn’t all that is going on at Playback Recording Studio. We have had a number of new artists come through the doors recently, and we look forward to their upcoming releases. Some of these artists include Jonathan McEuen, Bira, The Fire Department, The Oles…

In 2014 we plan on bringing a slew of new projects to the forefront of the Santa Barbara community. One of the first events we are planning will be a music showcase of the recent talent coming through the studio, with the first installment coming this spring!

Studio updates!

We’ve been working extremely hard to spruce the studio up in the past week, with new lighting, plants, couch cushions, and more! Check out some of the new additions below.

 

Colbie Caillat and Gavin DeGraw

Back in August 2012 we got to work with Colbie Caillat and Gavin DeGraw last minute before they played the Santa Barbara Bowl. They worked on a track for her record “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” the classic holiday song. It was impromptu, but it came out really well and everyone was happy with the results.
